Dr. K
Dr. K was raised in the Southwest, and relocated to New York State in 1991. She did her undergraduate work at Hamilton College and SUNY Albany, and received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2006. She is a category II USDA/APHIS accredited veterinarian.
Dr. K first became interested in acupuncture for animals in the late 1990’s, and began studying acupuncture theory well before starting veterinary school. She received her certification in veterinary acupuncture from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2013, and an additional certification in veterinary acupuncture from CuraCore in 2016. She received her certification as a TCVM herbalist from the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies in 2016. She is currently enrolled in Options for Animals veterinary chiropractic certification program.
After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. K worked for four years in a mixed animal, integrative, veterinary practice in Glastonbury, CT with a focus on small ruminants (goats, sheep, llamas, alpacas) but also treating dogs, cats, horses, and the occasional donkey, cow, or pig. From there she moved to Washington State, where she completed her coursework in veterinary acupuncture and herbs, started a hobby farm, and opened her own practice, Palouse Holistic Veterinary Care. After 6 years in Washington, she moved back to the Capital Region with her family in 2016. Since returning, she has worked in small animal general practice, focused on wellness, urgent care, nutrition, acupuncture, rehabilitation, and pain management.
Dr. K lives on a hobby farm with her husband, Yiannos, and 2 children, Alex & Adon. Over the years, she has had dogs, cats, chickens, goats, and a llama. She fosters cats for Free To Be Me Rescue, serves on the Board of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture as Delegate to the American Veterinary Medical Association, and also serves on the board of Castle Island Bilingual Montessori school in Albany. In her free time, she can usually be found hiking in Thacher Park, cooking, or attending local live music events.
